big, big day!

Today Moose turns one year old! He is healthy and developmentally on track and all smiles in the photos of him that I’ve seen! I can’t wait to see him on Thursday and get his little pictures taken. It’s so wonderful to be in contact with his parents and always know that he’s doing great and so is the rest of his family. They even invited me to his birthday party!

Jo Jo did get into the doctor’s office yesterday. She weighed 9 pounds, more than I thought she would! She was in the 20th percentile for height and weight for her age, and 50th for head circumference. She has been eating more and more as the days go by, I think she’s going to be a little chub pretty soon. She was wide awake all day yesterday, looking intently at everyone and even trying out a few smiles. I managed to sleep almost all night, too, because I had to work today and she only got up twice to eat, and both times my mom fed her and she went right back down. She’s so sweet and perfect, it’s going to be terribly awfully hard to give her back!

  1. The infants are a whole different gig, because of the sleepless nights, nightly feedings, the lack of normal communication (just different crying), and the fact that they rely solely on you. But, so many are hard to place because of the fear of letting them go back. I had to give my first case up, and it wasn’t only a newborn, but I spent the week in the hospital with her right after placement. Then, I got one that “accidentally” broke its arm (though I’m pretty sure god made infant bones flexible for a reason). My girl I got forever? My worker said she overheard another worker get turned down for her placement because of fear of attachment, and said she ran and said she knew who would say yes right away. It was me, because if I had faith, I knew I would get to keep one sometime. She’s here…forever, and I tell ya, it’s great knowing that all the pain was worth it. She’s mine, and I protect her heart and soul like a beast!
