5 months baby!

On Tuesday my little Jo Jo will be five months old, on Wednesday she will be 22 weeks. She has grown and changed so much that sometimes I watch the videos I took of her on her second day with me, at the age of five weeks, and can’t believe it’s the same baby.

Jo Jo’s favorite people:
My mom
Cleo and Devi

How to make Jo Jo laugh:
Bounce her on your knee
Kisses on her belly or neck

Jo Jo enjoys:
Reading “I Love You Through and Through” and turning the pages
Having her feet rubbed
Watching Baby Einstein on the computer (for the short period I allow her to)
Watching the cats
Using her voice, loudly
Riding in the car and playing with her hanging “froggie” on the carseat
Getting out of the house
Baths and swimming
Sleeping in my bed
The Jenny Jump Up

Jo Jo does not like:
Going to sleep at night
Pacifiers (anymore)
Playing in the exercauser or baby gym for more than a few minutes
Any noise while she’s falling asleep
Staying home all day
Tummy time

Milestones and firsts:
Swimming and bathing in the lake
Going under water
Eating pureed squash, sweet potatoes, peaches, and apricots
Sitting up independently
Sitting in a restaurant high chair
Belly laughing
Reaching for and picking up objects

Jo Jo has a very strong, willful personality at home, meaning she doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long, or play with the same toys in the same spot for too long. She lets you know quite quickly that she’s getting bored by screaming in a high pitched “goat” shriek. She likes to use the full capacity of her lungs! Staying home all day with her is a bad idea, unless it’s warm enough to go swimming. If the water isn’t warm enough, however, she will clench her fists and shiver dramatically. She loves to go places in the car, and she falls asleep almost before we’ve pulled out of the driveway. She enjoys being around different people, seeing new places, and doing new things, but she is much more reserved in social settings than at home. She smiles sweetly, stares intently, and is less vocal when out of the house. Everyone says, “what a good baby!” She’s the perfect baby to take with me on errands. At night, she hates to be put down to sleep. She yells her protests even as her eyes are closing, until finally she drifts off. Make sure not to shut any doors, trip on something, sneeze, or cough, though! She will wake up and the whole process has to start again.

Jo Jo is so funny when she’s at home and comfortable with who is around her. She loves to be jiggled, bounced, “airplane’d”, tickled, and kissed. She chuckles jovially and squeals her delight. It’s such an honor, every day of my life, to be “mom” to this little girl, and to watch her grow into the extraordinary woman she is destined to be.
