My foster worker talked to adoptions (again, my adoption worker is on vacation), and called me. Apparently, it is all just paperwork, the person named on the birth certificate is not the father and has confirmed that he is not in any way interested in being the father. I know who this person is, too, and don’t know why the birth mom would put his name on the birth certificate, but she did and now it has created a paperwork nightmare.
But everyone keeps trying to calm me down by repeating, there is NO competing party, there is NO competing party.
Ok. I feel slightly better but still real queasy. Once this adoption is done, I don’t ever, ever, EVER want to go through foster-to-adopt AGAIN. My girl is soooo worth it, but I won’t tempt fate twice.
To clarify – the one whose rights were terminated is the actual biological father, and now there is another “father” whose name is on the birth certificate? Is that right?
Correct.
