potty training

Age newborn to 12 months-ish: moms are obsessed with sleep patterns
Age 12 months-ish to 24 months-ish: moms are obsessed with eating patterns
Age 2-3: moms are obsessed with potty training!

It’s starting in earnest. I bought M her first pack of undies (Dora), which she wants until they’re on, then she wants them off. She has her own potty seat for my girlfriend’s house and my cottage. And we have made it to the potty quite a few times for pee, if not at the beginning, she sometimes pees a little then holds it and makes it to the bathroom for the rest!

I seriously have no methodology to all of this, no plan, no timeline. I don’t know if that’s going to help or hurt me. Right now it seems to work out best to take off her pants and let her be nekkid from the waist down while at home, and go to the potty once or twice wherever we are when we’re out. I feel like eventually, this will work. She’s 23 months… if by 2 1/2 we’ve made no progress, I may start to (re)strategize!

  1. Every kid I’ve ever potty trained (4 of them total so far) I’ve trained by keeping them naked from the waist down. Usually takes me about 2 weeks of really focusing on it. We don’t go out much and I don’t use pull-ups (except at nap and bedtime). I pump them full of liquids to give them plenty of chances to practice the skill. Personally, it’s always worked best for me when I did this before they turned 2. Once they get all independent and sassy, potty training is a lot harder. (My youngest forever kid was two years old right when we were moving across the country so I had to wait. I know we missed the “window” and he took forever to train.)
