potty training in three days: day 1

Since everyone seems to think the three day method works best for most kids, I decided we’d do it over the three days I have off. Yesterday was what I would consider a success, especially for the first day. M peed three times, all three in the potty! Of course, we went to sit on the potty no less than 30 times, heh heh. I gave her lots of fun stuff to drink, juice in those spillproof bottles that have character heads on them, sparkling cranberry juice in the tin cans, popsicles, etc. It still seems like she doesn’t pee that much, though. We were going to stay on the hardwood floors all day, but she did such a great job of making it to the potty, and the DVD player in the livingroom wasn’t working, so I let her spend time in the bedroom.

The only accident happened because I broke the rule about staying home and went out to dinner with someone who was buying us food. (Free food?! Too tempting…) We went to the bathroom each time M asked to go, which was making the waitstaff laugh because it was like every 5 minutes. We had just come back from the bathroom when she started saying “pee pee!” again and I was like, hold on just a second I want to eat a bite or two. Of course, she then unleashed the biggest pee ever. It sounded like a waterfall cascading off of the restaurant high chair. Then she had a bit of poo in her undies when we got in from the car. All this juice and liquid is actually not helping to keep her poop more solid!

So we are on day 2, and it’s 10:15am and M hasn’t had to pee yet, at all. Despite milk, lots of juice, and a popsicle. She’s obviously holding out for the big pee.

  1. I don’t like the huge quantities of juice aspect of this method. It doesn’t make sense and isn’t healthy. Plus lots of kids get diarhea from juice. Wallace doesn’t pee much either but I try to get him on the potty once an hour.
