I’ve fallen in love. And on the internet, no less.
Here is a photo of the object of my affection:
It’s a house.
I’ve driven past this house about 100 times now, dying to go look into the windows. I have a fascination for abandoned historical buildings, and this house continued to catch my eye. The windchills of -40 have prevented me from venturing into the yard, unfortunately. Today I looked up the house on the realtor’s website, and that sort of sealed the deal. It’s love, at first profile reading.
The house has been foreclosed on, and the price is dumbfoundingly good. The inside of the house is chock full of old Victorian character, lots of solid wood trim, huge cabinets, strangely shaped rooms, porches with gingerbread trim, a grand staircase, 4 possibly 5 bedrooms, a clawfoot tub in one of the 5 bathrooms, and even a dumbwaiter in the kitchen.
And here’s the thing, I moved into my current house (a two bedroom summer cottage that has been sort of winterized) as a single woman. This tiny house (think less than 800 sq feet) is now occupied by three people and two cats, and that’s way too many. I’ve had my eye on my grandma’s house (4 bedrooms) but she may be there for a while yet. I would like to shut down the cottage (turn off all utilities) and use it as it was meant to be used… a place to spend the night, or make sandwiches, while hanging out at the lake.
And new plan… buy The Mansion, as it shall now be called, and foster like two more babies, and feel like a queen. Drive 10 minutes down the road to my summer cottage in good weather. Is this actually going to happen? Probably not, but I’m sure as hell going to get the realtor to let me look around inside, and dream about a life with my newfound love.
While I’m daydreaming, I’m going to see how I can cut back on expenses to possibly afford the very reasonable mortgage. I would live cable and internet (at home) less for this place, yes I would! I would even trade in my 2013 car for something simpler, yes, I totally would!
Do it! That house is gorgeous! What kind of work does it need done?
And just a word of caution, a friend recently found out her antique tub had been leaking lead and he had been bathing her baby in it for a year.
I’ve fallen in love too!! Do it!
Go for it! It sounds like a match made in housing heaven!
No, we can’t leave our family history.
It’s beautiful!
